How does RefreshWeb develop keyword lists for organic SEO?

We begin with an audit of your site, which includes looking at competitor sites, the market space, what terms have search, and where your company can successfully compete. If prospects knew that your company had the answer to their problem, they'd just look for your company. You're the answer: RefreshWeb finds out how your potential customers are asking the question.

Singular or plural? What order are the words in? Are they searching with a geographic modifier? During the initial stages of the project, we create long lists of keywords to make sure we aren't missing any opportunities. We've even developed a proprietary tool to help us build out these lists. Then we put the lists into two different tools that give estimates of search volume.

Some terms are clear choices for being the most effective search engine marketing keywords-they have good search volume, they indicate intent to purchase, and the market space around them isn't too full. Other terms help us and our clients tailor our approach, truly addressing what the market is asking for by building out organic SEO content around the terms they're using-literally speaking their language.

While general terms may seem like they would be the most effective, search engine marketing actually works much better with more specific terms for both the prospects and our clients. A term like "internet marketing agency" is much more important to our business than "internet marketing," because the first is more likely to be a prospect, not an information-gatherer. Strategic internet marketing looks linguistically for the intent of the searcher, utilizing keywords that pre-qualify the prospect as someone who is really looking to make the purchase. These transactional search terms are the keywords that are the most effective in organic SEO.
